Opportunities and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Adobe InDesign to Speed Up Editorial Work

Did you know that Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat have implemented AI-powered tools long before ChatGPT was released? In this course we’ll uncover potential and constraints of the AI features that Adobe has released in the latest versions of InDesign and Acrobat. These tools promise to streamline editorial and layout workflows, while keeping the professional in control. Who is this course for? The course is designed for those who work with Adobe InDesign on a daily basis and want to know and critically assess AI-powered tools to optimize their editorial workflow. No prior AI experience is required; an advanced understanding of Adobe InDesign is required.

Agenda

  • Introduction: a brief overview of the different types of AI, to comprehend strengths and limitations of each tool
  • Automated text management: AI-based tools for intelligent style formatting and font management
  • Image management: beyond text-to-image generation. Advanced layout features for professional results, all without leaving InDesign
  • Accessibility: current potential and limitations of AI in improving accessibility within production workflows
  • Working with PDFs: smart features for editing and managing PDF files in an editorial workflow
  • Adobe Acrobat: an overview of the generative AI features available in the software.
Speakers

Gregorio Pellegrino, Chief Accessibility Officer at Fondazione LIA, is an Italian software engineer with a strong focus on improving digital accessibility for visually impaired individuals. His expertise is reflected in his co-editing of key industry documents, such as W3C EPUB Accessibility 1.1, the Accessibility Metadata Display Guide for Digital Publications 2.0, and the EPUB Accessibility - EU Accessibility Act Mapping. He is also technical leader of the DAISY Consortium's "Accessible EPUB from InDesign Expert Group," working with Adobe to enhance the accessibility of EPUBs exported from InDesign. Pellegrino's work with organizations like W3C, DAISY, and EDItEUR helps shape global accessibility standards. Through his consulting, training, and standards development efforts, he continues to support more inclusive reading experiences in digital publishing.
