2025 in Italian publishing
The analysis by the AIE Research Department based on NielsenIQ BookData highlights how, from 2008 to the present, book publishing has gone through three different phases. The first saw, after growth in 2008-2010, a sharp decline in sales to a low of 81.3 million copies sold in 2016. This was followed by a period of strong growth, which accelerated after Covid and led to a peak of 104.8 million copies sold in 2021. This growth then stalled, and in 2024, 102.6 million copies were sold. After trade market sales had recorded a 2.4% decline in value in the first ten months of the year compared to 2024, with total sales of €1,128.8 million, a positive November led the market to reduce the decline to 1.98%.
The data was presented during Più libri più liberi 2025. The survey is in Italian.
