In 2025, the Italian general-interest publishing sector closed the year down 2.2%, with total sales of €1,483.8 million, €32.7 million less than the previous year. The school textbook publishing sector recorded a 2.2% decline, settling at €773 million, €17.2 million less than the previous year. University publishing saw a 7.6% decline: sales of €140.8 million were €11.7 million lower than the previous year. Piracy cost the sector a total of €722 million over the 12-month period, accounting for 30% of the sector’s sales excluding educational publishing and exports.
