About us The Associazione Italiana Editori (Italian Publishers Association) is the trade association for Italian and foreign publishers operating in Italy or who publish books, magazines and electronic publishing products, both multimedia and on-line, in Italian. While the process of digital convergence has blurred the boundaries between publishing as it is traditionally understood and other sectors of the media, the AIE continues to represent companies which produce and handle content, regardless of the format through which it is distributed.
One of the principal aims of the AIE is to represent and defend publishers and to encourage the development of the profession while at the same time promoting initiatives for the spread of books and Italian culture in Italy and throughout the world.
The priorities
The promotion of reading in Italy and the diffusion of Italian books in the world are the priorities of the Association today. Mindful of these aims AIE is working intensively to engage all relevant parties, both institutions and private individuals, to obtain the resources needed to finance an organic law for the book sector.

AIE carries out many activities to safeguard the publishing profession and its development.
Lobbying: AIE represents and safeguards the interests of the trade association in various settings: fiscal regulations, copyrights, publishing rights, promotion of reading, fight against illegal activities, etc.
Anti-piracy programmes: AIE offers its members an anti-piracy service which controls and fights against the illegal use of editorial contents protected by copyright, both in traditional hard copy and electronic formats.
European projects: AIE participates in and coordinates various European projects like ArrowPlus, eAccess+ and Linked Heritage to support Italian publishing companies in adopting new technologies and leading them to new key community scenarios.
National projects: AIE coordinates LIA – Libri Italiani Accessibili (Italian Accessible Books), the project that aims to create a service increasing the current availability of editorial products on the market in formats accessible to the blind and partially sighted.
Digital publishing: AIE studies the change of contents on new supports and in new distribution channels: on-line bookshops, eBooks and Web 2.0. Since 2007, AIE has organised in Milan Editech, the first conference and international day dedicated to the study of the industry of publishing contents and new digital technologies. This event offers those operating in the publishing sector the knowledge and tools necessary to adapt their own corporate strategies to new business models.
Trade fairs: AIE organises collective stands and/or professional conference activities in the most important national (Turin, Bologna) and international (Frankfurt, London, Beijing, and New York) fairs. AIE also manages the participation of Italian publishers at trade fairs where Italy is the guest Country (Guadalajara, Montreuil, Moscow, etc.). Since 2002, AIE has also directly managed and organised the small and mid-sized publishing fair Più libri più liberi in Rome.
Research Department: AIE collects and organises sector scenarios by providing tools and materials for the analysis of forthcoming challenges. The department publishes in the series of Quaderni del Giornale della libreria and at www.giornaledellalibreria.it the results of the studies carried out; AIE publishes also the Report on the State of Publishing in Italy and the Map of Italian Publishing Market.
Training: AIE organises courses and seminars for leading publishers and for parties working in the content sector, as well as for people aiming to become a publisher. In addition to «library» courses (all ISO 9001-2008 certified), and to others organised upon the request of publishing companies, AIE provides «entry level» courses at publishing houses through agreements with the most advanced universities. It has a dedicated website at www.formedi.it.
Legal and fiscal consultancy for members: AIE assists members by providing widespread fiscal and legal consultancy (each year at least 300 on-line circulars and notices dealing with a variety of topics are distributed to its members).
